Privacy Policy

Effective: [DATE OF PUBLICATION]
Last updated: [DATE OF PUBLICATION]
Applies to: the Parampara mobile application for Android and iOS

Parampara is made by Turtle Techsai ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app collects, what it deliberately does not collect, where your information goes, and what you can ask us to do with it.

We do not sell personal information. There is no advertising in the app and no advertising or analytics trackers embedded in it.

1. The short version

2. What we collect

2.1 Information you give us

WhatWhyWhere it is stored
Mobile number To sign you in by one-time password, and to identify your account Our database, hosted on Microsoft Azure (India region)
Your name or nickname To greet you, and to show family members who changed what On your device; also our database if you join a household
Language and region preference To show the app in your language On your device
Festival choices, tasks, custom festivals, recipes and notes To keep your version of each festival On your device; also our database if you join a household
Household name, invite code, membership and activity To keep a family in sync and show who updated a setup Our database

2.2 What is shared inside a household

If you start or join a household, these are shared with its other members and stored on our servers. Outside a household, none of it leaves your phone.

WhatWhy it is shared
Festival setup — items, customs, aarti choice, reminder timing So one person's edit reaches the whole family
Task assignments So everyone can see who agreed to do what
Which prep tasks are done So two people don't buy the same thing
Members of the household and their display names So tasks can be assigned to a person by name
Recipes, elders, and heirloom notes you save So the family's records are the family's, not one phone's
Festival photos and videos — the files themselves, plus their captions and which festival they belong to So the family album is the family's, not one phone's. Files are stored in our Azure storage in India, in a private container that is not readable without a signed, short-lived link issued only to members of your household.

Anyone holding your household's invite code can join it and see all of the above. Share the code only with people you mean to give that access to.

2.3 Information collected automatically

WhatWhy
Notification token for your device To send festival reminders. Stored only if you allow notifications.
A record of which reminders were sent So we do not send the same reminder twice

2.4 Information we deliberately do not collect

3. Device permissions, and what each is really for

PermissionUsed forDoes the data leave your device?
Microphone Recording a family member explaining a ritual, or an aarti in their voice Yes, if you ask for a transcript. The recording is sent to Apple's speech recognition and to our transcription provider. The audio file itself stays on your device.
Camera Photographing something you want to ask about Yes, for that photo only. It is sent with your question to our AI provider to be answered.
Photo library Adding photos and videos to your festival album, or attaching one to a question No for album photos. Yes only for a photo you attach to a question.
Location (while using the app) Finding puja shops, flower sellers and sweet shops near you Yes, at the moment you search. Approximate coordinates are sent to Google Places. We do not store your location.
Notifications Festival and prep reminders Only the notification token, so we can reach your device

You can refuse or withdraw any of these in your device settings. The rest of the app keeps working; only the feature that needs the permission stops.

4. Who else processes your data

These are the only third parties the app sends data to:

ProviderWhat is sentPurpose
Microsoft Azure Everything stored in our database, and requests to our API Hosting and database. Primary region: Central India.
Microsoft Azure Blob Storage Festival photos and videos, if you are in a household Storing the shared family album. Central India, private container, reachable only through a link that expires in minutes.
Azure OpenAI Service Your typed question, and a photo if you attach one Answering questions about rituals and suggesting recipes
Apple — Speech Recognition (iOS only) Audio while you dictate Converting speech to text as you speak. Apple may process this on its servers; see Apple's privacy policy.
Sarvam AI Audio you ask to transcribe; text you ask to be read aloud Speech-to-text and text-to-speech in Indian languages
Google — Firebase Cloud Messaging Your notification token and the reminder text Delivering push notifications
Google — Places API Approximate location and the type of shop you are looking for Finding nearby shops

We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.

4.1 Shopping links

Some prep tasks offer links to retailers such as Blinkit, Zepto, BigBasket, Flipkart and Myntra. Some of these are affiliate links, which means we may receive a commission if you buy something. We do not pass any of your personal information to those retailers; opening a link takes you to their own site or app, where their own privacy policy applies.

5. Where your data is stored, and for how long

Data we hold is stored in Microsoft Azure's Central India region. Some processing providers listed above may handle data outside India; where that happens it is done under those providers' contractual data protection terms.

6. Your rights

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 — and, where they apply to you, the GDPR and UK GDPR — you can ask us to:

You can delete your account and everything attached to it directly in the app — Settings → Delete my account — with immediate effect, or follow the steps on our account deletion page. For anything else, write to gupta.akshay1996@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India, or to your local supervisory authority.

7. Children

Parampara is not directed at children. Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, a person under 18 in India is treated as a child, and their data may only be processed with verifiable consent from a parent or guardian. If you are under 18, please use the app only with your parent's or guardian's involvement and consent. If we learn that we hold a child's data without that consent, we will delete it.

8. Security

Traffic between the app and our servers uses HTTPS. Our database is not publicly reachable and access is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security; if we become aware of a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant authority as the law requires.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, for anything significant, tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
